Clay Fuller wins Georgia House special election for Marjorie Taylor Greene seat

Greene’s district backed President Trump by roughly 37 points in 2024, according to The Downballot. But both parties have kept an eye on the special election as as bellwether for Democrats as they look to maintain their overperformance streak in some of the reddest areas of the country.Harris, who ran against Greene in 2024 and lost handily, placed first in the initial March primary, at 37 percent support, while Fuller placed second at 35 percent. The sheer number of Republicans running for the Peach State’s House seat divided the primary field, forcing Tuesday’s runoff. While Democrats have yet to flip any congressional seats this year, the party has been able to clinch a number of Republican-held state legislative seats, including two seats in Florida more recently. One of those seats represents the district that includes the president’s Mar-a-Lago resort. Last year, Democrats also flipped two seats on the Georgia Public Service Commission. Georgia will hold a separate primary for the 14th Congressional District on May 19, among other races, to serve the full two-year term.
